Deadline for Orange County Fair is June 1st this year. They are doing something a little different in that they are allowing more than two pieces of art per category. So if your work measures up and they have space it's an opportunity for your own gallery show. The fair offers a rare opportunity for your work to be seen by 30,000 people in a month so it's worth the entry fee! They have a professional entry category, an Amateur Entry, and a student division so there's sure to be a category that fits your station. Take a chance!

I'm old enough to know better but not old enough to make practical use of it yet. I enjoy drawing the beauty of nature - pretty much everything but I do have my preferences. I'm a mother of two beautiful girls who make me laugh and cry and scream almost every day. I wish I had a clicker to stop time so I could sit in my studio and draw until my hand feels like a lead weight without my house turning to chaos. I tell myself that I want to sell my work but the ones I REALLY like, I want to keep for myself...this could be a problem since that's most of them. I secretly wish for natural disasters, just not in my neighborhood. I have a mean streak but I'm working on it. I have four dogs, four cats, six turtles, 2 rats and some fish and it's never enough. I'll let you in on a secret - my husband hates animals...that's LOVE, right?? We've been together for over 20 years, shit - now I just gave away my age. I love to read but don't have a book club and this makes me infinitely sad. Seems like they are everywhere - like mosquitos! but alas I can't find one for myself. I'm a democrat with a brain - which means I use common sense but I still have a heart. I'm ferocious about gay rights but still have yet to go to one of the local PFLAG meetings in my town, too nervous. I like this president, hated the last one, loved the one before that BJ and all. I voted for Hilary. I long for Sarah Palin's implosion...AGAIN. And I'm an atheist who is always searching, searching, searching.

Thank you for the compliment. No, that's a good idea. I see how great it looks on your art to color the scratch art in. Maybe for my next scratch art, I should try it. I'm always scared to ruin something I'm happy with. Your very good at adding color.

Always use pigment inks because they are waterproof and dilute them like crazy and layer slowly. Thats the key. And you can always scrape off what you put down, thats the beauty of scratchboard! Get a practice board and try a few different small subjects to get a feel for it.
