Cheetah Snuggle by Heatherzart Cheetah Snuggle by Heatherzart
18" x 24"
Scratchboard and Ink

Haven't gotten the cheetahs names yet - they are two of the cheetahs living at the San Diego Wild Animal Park. This is a second commission to go with Pombe 2, I don't think the colors are going to match up right but it might be ok. They will be hung side by side though so I had to keep the light source the same. This was difficult since the photos were taken on different days, I ended up making a sculpture out of it and then creating my light source that way. It was time consuming but a really great exercise in the end and I think I'll use it again. As always any and all comments are greatly appreciated.

what REALLY catches my attention is the extreme amount of detail in this! it's absolutely amazing! textures, lighting, color, and anatomy are all an A+! not to mention how sweet and adorable this is. i love how the cheetahs fade into the black background as they get farther into the picture.
theres almost nothing negative i can imply about this picture. one thing i would suggest is keeping a closer eye on the muzzle of the cat in profile. the tearmarks and muzzle look strange. cheetahs like all muzzled animals, have 'whisker-holes' i call them, leading into the middle of their snout. look at this photo

maybe tweaking some little dots in there would make this even more super amazing!
but overall, this is a piece of artwork deserving at least a daily deviation! i would suggest it but don't know how. keep up the amazing work!

At first peek I thought this was a phoco till closer inspection I was all WHOA the detail in this is amaing. The tender feeling you get is just so warm and calming. I have seen alot of cheetah artwork but this happens to be one of the best and one of the most detailed. You added just the right amount of spots *Some people draw very few or way to many*

I simply love this peice of work if I seen it in stores i would buy it in a heartbeat. There is not very many feline works like this mostly wolves I am bad for it myself but I rather love this. ~Blue

This image was $1500 about three years ago.  It's 18" x 24" so not the largest image I do, I sell the biggest ones for $3000 to $3500.

This takes my breath away! What a wonderful image! I love the interaction of the cheetahs...not the typical composition layout for pictures...the more unique the pose, the better I like the piece of work... This one defines unique! :)

Thanks, I've had a lot of people say on some of my pieces that they'd be better if the eyes were open and to me, there's just something about a big cat in repose. Some of the closed eye pictures are my favorites (narmada 1 and Laini)

I have to agree with you...there is something calming about a big cat in repose, eyes closed, obviously living in the moment... It is so common to do a big cat looking at you etc. that I find the "caught in the moment" pieces more appealing to me...more life like... This one speaks of calmness, relaxation, togetherness... One of my favorites for sure... :)

Thanks so much- I Took the picture myself at the San Diego wild animal park and used the picture as a reference. I always trace an outline of my photos on the board in chalk and then start scratching from there just to make sure I get the proportions right.

And the details in this are... beyond my mind's capacity.

Now I'll stop with the big words. I love it.
